Karachiites woke up to another round of early morning showers on Thursday – marked the fourth consecutive day of merciless monsoon rain, leaving large cuts of the city immersed, rivers flowing over and hundreds displaced.
Showerers were reported from Saddar, Ma Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Burns Road and Clifton.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has expected partially cloudy and humid weather in the city for the next 24 hours, with light rain and drizzle expected today.
Metropolis has witnessed relentless crashed rain over the past three days, which has caused stress on the city’s drainage system, damaged infrastructure and left commuters stranded on flooded roads.
Several streets and residential areas were flooded after Lyari and Malir rivers as well as other streams swelled due to heavy rain in Sindh.
The city reported several deaths as a result of drowning in the crowded Gadap River.
According to MET Office, from September 8 to 10, the highest rainfall was registered in Surjani Town of 143.8 millimeters. Guldhan-e-Maymar received 109.8 mm, Gullhan-E-HADED 92MM and Korangi 92mm, North Karachi 81.6 mm and DHA 74.5 mm.
Sharea Faisal logged 64 mm, Nazimabad 60.5 mm and Saadi by 60.2 mm. University Road registered 58.8 mm, old airport 58.3 mm, orangi 47.2 mm, Mauripur 45mm and Jinnah Terminal 38.6 mm.
