PESHAWAR:
Following a catastrophic brake failure, a trailer on Saturday ran over a number of vehicles, including a bus, in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), killing at least twelve people.
According to Karak Deputy Commissioner, the incident took place at Indus Highway near Ambiri Kallay chowk. “The incident was caused by a failure of the trailer’s brakes. After the truck went out of control, it hit a number of vehicles on the highway,” he said.
Police feared that the number of injured was likely to rise. The rescue and relief operation on the highways was underway and emergency workers were still busy rescuing the injured and the dead from the bus. They said thirteen people had been injured in the tragedy.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi took notice of the road accident and sought detailed information. The governor instructed the Ministry of Health to provide all possible assistance to the injured.
Kundi also directed Red Crescent teams to carry out relief activities and urged the PPP workers to join the relief efforts in Ambiri Kallay and donate blood.
According to reports, Samiullah, the trailer driver from Lakki Marwat district, has been arrested in an injured condition. The injured driver is currently being treated in hospital. The main road has been reopened to restore traffic.
