Kate Middleton was caught by the guard while welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron at Raf Northolt with Prince William.
The princess of Wales held a calm and composed reaction when she received an unexpected air kiss on her hand from Macron.
When the French president helped his wife down the stairs, which she seemed to reject, he then greeted William with a warm handshake and friendly movements.
He turned to Kate and offered a polite air kiss over his hand instead of a handshake.
Body language expert Judi James said that although Gestus may feel outdated to some, Kate handled it with grace and smiled calmly.
“Macron’s charm offensive would not be averted. After a micro-trunk ritual that suggested that he might have just gone for a cheek kiss to William, he is content with a handshake that he pepped with add-on handles and claps to suggest confidentiality and friendship,” she said.
The expert added, “When his view of Galantry was distilled to a picturesque antique air handy, which he seemed to have created out of her that was offered shaking.
“This is a difficult ritual for the modern woman to respond to, as it tends to encourage a embarrassed giggle in these more feminist times.
“But Kate smiled gracefully, perhaps aware that it would be Brigitte’s tour next when Charles chose to lift the back of his hand all the way up to his lips to maintain eye contact as he planted his own lips.”
