Future Queen Catherine has taken her cue from Prince William and King Charles – who have a firm plan to set the tone for their respective reigns – as she dives into a personal mission following her battle with cancer.
A doting mother to her three children, Princess Kate is cementing her legacy as she takes her learnings from motherhood and other studies to address the challenges that will arise for children in the future.
The royals have been passionate about raising children, especially in the early years of their lives and therefore started an organization dedicated to it, the Center for Early Childhood.
As the world adapts to the digitization of life, Kate expresses her concern about how it affects children, a concern she shares with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle despite their disagreements and complaints.
Recently, she wrote a moving essay about the study that emphasized “the power of human connection” in a “distracted” world. Royal author Sally Bedell Smith believes the princess is “doing something concrete”.
“She uses her resources [Centre for Early Childhood] fund to fund research to help identify the issues and where the gaps are and find out how parents can be helped, especially with these digital challenges that overwhelm many parents,” Sally wrote in her Substack.
Harvard University professor Robert Waldinger, who co-wrote the essay with Kate, shared that this is her “signature question, and she’s serious about it and doing her best to make a contribution.”
The initiative not only targets her children, but also those who live across the pond, including Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Sussexes had launched The Parents’ Network earlier this year to tackle the issue of online harm to youngsters. They have both remained deeply involved in the issue—not just as advocates, listeners, but ultimately parents.
In the meantime, Kate continues her efforts to ensure that children have loving environments where they can thrive.
“I thought her speech to the business leaders was very persuasive and indicates the depth she has studied this issue, which means a lot to her,” Sally shared.
Given Kate’s dedication to the work, she hopes lending a voice to a subject considered “not glamorous” would gain attention. Professor Robert suggests it is “huge” and can make an “incredible difference” in bringing business with the platform she has.
