Mark Consuelos initially rejected co-hosting live with his wife, Kelly Ripa.
RIPA, 54, made the revelation during a recent appearance on Not thin but not fat Podcast while remembering the early days of hosting a show with her husband.
“It was really convincing field,” she explained. “Because originally, when they came to Mark, he refused flat out.”
She admitted the same, “I also thought it was a kind of bad idea. I was like a man, and a wife who hosted a morning show is different from a husband and wife who traded together or produced something together.”
Despite their first hesitation, the show hit it with the fans. “The audience is really responding to Mark because Mark has a giving zero f ***’s attitude,” Kelly said.
“There is no artefect with him. If he hates something, he hates it out loud, no matter how much we should love it. And when he thinks something is mute, he says that no matter how much we should pretend to like what is.”
RIPA credited their 31-year relationship to help them remain authentic on the air. “We’re not worried about protecting each other’s feelings. We both just say what’s in our minds and I assume people find it relatable.”
Consuelos, which shares three adult children – Michael, 28, Lola, 24 and Joaquin, 22 – with Ripa, officially joined the show in 2023 after Ryan Seacrest’s departure.
Ripa also revealed a pet -peve when it comes to working with her husband on live -tv.
“He doesn’t often listen to me and he will set me up while we live on the air,” she shared on the podcast.
