Kenan Thompson opens up for silent fight after health diagnosis

Kenan Thompson opened for his recent health diagnosis after months of silent suffering.

The Saturday Night Live Star talked about his health struggle that he has been fighting for over two years in a recent chat with People.

The comedian revealed that he was facing severe heartbeat problems that disturbed his working days at Snl.

“I noticed that I would be a heap much easier when I make the show. Losing my voice faster, but also unpleasant sleepless nights because I blow up acid, just kind of hiccup all night,” he said the expired.

Thompson continued to say, “and it can certainly add more stress to an already stressful kind of environment that makes a live show like that. So all these factors I was like what I get over it. But it just started pouring up.”

“I was able to take something and patch it up at the moment, but I came to a point where it didn’t work anymore. That was when it got serious,” he explained further. “It was a disorder-in-the-silence situation. I don’t know if I was necessarily embarrassed to talk to a doctor-I just didn’t know if I needed it.”

After his symptoms became “extreme” in early 2024, he decided to visit a doctor and was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD.

“I didn’t know there was a real medical term for it,” he noted.

“Gerd (Acid Reflux) is a disease that occurs when stomach acid washes back in the esophagus. It can cause discomfort and can lead to prior changes in the lining of the esophagus,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

Now, after his diagnosis, his doctors recommended that he take a potassium -competitive acid blocks to control the painful heartburn. “I felt relief pretty immediately,” the 46-year-old actor added.
