Kentucky Church Shooting leaves three dead, including suspected

A gunman killed two women in a church in Kentucky and shot and wounded a state troops outside an airport on Sunday before police were able to shoot him to death, authorities said.

The women were killed in Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington. Two men were also injured there, including one who was in critical condition, Lexington Police Chief told Lawrence Weathers to a press conference after the afternoon.

Authorities did not deliver the suspected name or age.

“There are days like today that are extremely difficult,” Weathers said. “Sometimes things happen you just don’t have a reason for.”

The suspect fired against the troop after being pulled over near Blue Grass Airport around 10 p.m. 11.30 in Fayette County, Weathers said. The shooting happened on a road calling the airport but was not associated with its operations, police say.

The Trooper was treated at a nearby hospital and was in stable condition.

The suspected carjacked then a vehicle approx. 16 km from the airport and fled to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the individual began shooting at people on the church grounds.

Police asked the location of the carjacked vehicle for the church.

The police chief did not offer any motive for the shooting, but said there was some indication that the suspect may have known some of the population of the church.

Weathers said the Lexington police would conduct an internal review of the shooting as required by the department’s policies.

The Blue Grass Airport posted at x at. 13 ET (1700 GMT) that there was a law enforcement survey that affects part of an airport road, but that all aircraft and operations now continued normally.
