Karachi:
‘Khawatoons’ keeps returning to District 19. They’ve done more than five shows there in the past. Now All Girls Comedy Group is scheduled to perform on site this Friday in Karachi. The event continues from 19.30 to 21:00 on September 19th.
The show promises one night “Packed with fresh jokes, quick vest and the kind of laughter you won’t miss out on.” It’s considered to be 16+ and we can expect an adult comedy from the group, according to their Instagram.
In a speech with Express Pakinomist, Ashika Shaikh, group member of Khawatoons, said it’s just a women’s show. “It’s a safe space for women to enjoy adult comedy,” she said. “Our shows are super -interactive and highly dependent on the audience’s participation, so a women’s only show allows women to get out of their shell and let go with us, so that’s what to expect.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Ticketwala and at the entrance to the room. Each ticket costs 1500 Rs.
The event is organized by District 19, which is a multifunctional urban area that brings together individuals who are ready to stretch their minds with new experiences. It is for like -minded individuals, both locals and travelers. It is also an alternative hotspot to gather in Karachi with a space for creating and sharing, collaborating, learning and socializing.
Khawatoons were founded in 2016 by Faiza Saleem. It was and is still Pakistan’s first comedy troop for all women who have been going strong for nine years now, and Ashika has been a part of it for eight years.
Ashika, who reflected on working in a most male -dominated comedy field in Pakistan, said she has to work twice as hard to stand in line with her male colleagues. This is because they not only make comedy, they also actively struggle on the stereotype that women are not fun. “So you work extra hard to satisfy an audience who wants you not to be fun,” she said.
Ashika, which offers a more positive view of their personal journey, said, “We have been lucky and we have been on this for so long that we have found our voice and we have found our place and people.” Their current troop members consist of Faiza, Ashika, Jaweria Khan, Amtul Baweja, Nimra Ali Zaidi, Amtul Bawneja, Shanzeh Ishtiaq and Zemal Amin.
The group has appeared in different places around Karachi all year, such as IBA City Campus and Habitt City and are ready for their next show.
So gather your friends and expect some quarrel from the women this week!
