King Charles credit journalism for progression in democracy

King Charles III praises the role of journalism for being the power of democracy.

His Majesty, who hosted 400 guests from British journalism this week, admitted that they have an important role in playing in the economy.

He said at Buckingham Palace: “This role for your entire industry is now more important than ever.”

The king, 76, added: “You don’t always get it right. A free media is someone who will and makes mistakes.

“But on its best it is a cornerstone of our democracy.”

He said to the participants: “Your reporting helps to strengthen and confirm the rights and responsibilities we all share.

“It shines a light in dark corners and exposes injustice.”

He added: “Above all, it helps to strengthen our society, in times of joy and at moments of grief.

“It is in everyone’s interests that you have to succeed. For without a thriving and financially robust regional media, we would all be the poor,” noted His Majesty.
