PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Sunday announced a massive Rs1 trillion development package for the merged districts of KP, with Rs400 billion earmarked for health and education.
Speaking at the Bajaur Sports Complex after meeting the leaders of the Qaumi Aman Jirga, Afridi said the development plan would cover key sectors aimed at improving the standard of living in the districts.
The Chief Minister said the PTI provincial government is committed to ensure that resources are spent on people’s welfare.
He also announced several projects specific to Bajaur, including the establishment of a university campus connecting the district with the Dir and Swat highways, and the revival of the Bajaur Nursing College, which has been closed since 2007.
He assured the participants that all demands made in the charter of the jirga would be accepted and no negligence would be tolerated in the execution of development plans.
“Public tax money will be spent on the public,” he said, promising transparency and timely delivery.
Addressing the gathering attended by tribal elders, political and religious leaders and a large number of people, Afridi expressed gratitude for their efforts to maintain peace in former tribal areas.
He said the wisdom displayed by the tribal elders in dealing with difficult situations was commendable and stressed that peace remains the top priority without which development and prosperity are not possible.
The Chief Minister said that the provincial government is striving for sustainable peace and achieving this goal requires bringing all stakeholders on board.
He was referring to a unanimous statement passed on the floor of the provincial assembly by leaders from all political parties, which said military operations are not a solution to prevailing issues.
