Parachinar: In the midst of the government’s efforts to facilitate tension in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, a eight-month peace agreement was reached between two warlike in the region on Saturday.
Jirga member Haji Kamal confirmed the development and said the agreement was completed in the presence of Kurram -Vice Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed with other officials.
Sources told Pakinomist News that the elders from both sides, district management officials and other important stakeholders participated in the negotiations to reach the settlement.
When he spoke to the apartment, Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed said that the ceasefire has brought double joy for residents ahead of Eid Ul Fitr.
Meanwhile, Jirga member Haji Asghar said a plan is formulated to reopen roads that have remained blocked due to continuous tension.
Kurram, a district of more than 600,000 inhabitants near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for sectarian violence. But in recent months have seen escalating tensions, with clashes since July to date, leaving over 200 people died.
The recent clashes aggravated a humanitarian crisis in the district, where medicine and oxygen supplies run critically low due to the long -term closure of the most important highway connecting parachute to Peshawar.
Reports suggest that over 100 children may have died of a serious shortage of medicine, though Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesman, as lawyer Saif has denied these claims.
A magnificent peace Jirga was called in Kohat Fort to convey conversations between the warlike tribes in the violence district. After day -long negotiations, in January 2025, the two warlike tribes signed a peace agreement containing 14 points aimed at establishing peace in the area.
However, the hard -won agreement suffered a major setback when assistant commissioner Saeed Manan, who conveyed to stop fresh clashes between warring pages in Kurram, were injured with two others in a firing event in February.
Following sustained efforts by law enforcement, Fred was restored, and significant supplies also began to enter Kurram, which was cut off from the rest of the country for months.
As part of the peace efforts, a number of bunkers were torn in the upper and lower parts of Kurram last month. The process of removing tribal bunkers began after the peace agreement.
Separately announced Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Main money-from RS3M to RS30m-on 14 terrorists involved in recent violence in the Kurram district.
In a statement, CTD claimed that the defendants were involved in the murder of over 200 people, adding that all terrorists were associated with the forbidden Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
