Over 360 guests at a wedding reception in Lahores Johar city were affected by severe food poisoning, with more than 200 people hospitalized, some in critical condition.
The incident took place at a private Marquee in Satto Katla, where substandard food was allegedly served.
Sarfraz, resident of Khayaban-e-amin, had booked the awning for his wedding ceremony.
According to the first reports, guests began to experience nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal pain shortly after consuming the meal.
Emergency Services was immediately warned and several ambulances transported the affected persons to different hospitals throughout Lahore.
Health officials confirmed that nine patients were in critical condition at General Hospital Lahore. Another 27 guests were admitted to Raiwind Indus Hospital, while seven more received treatment at the University of Lahore Hospital.
Kasur DHQ Hospital was aware of over ten affected guests, and a total of 31 patients were treated in both private and public hospitals in Narowal.
In an interview with the media, Sarfraz accused Marquee management of serving “extremely poor quality and unhygienic food”, which led to the mass poisoning event.
Local authorities have taken quick actions with food safety teams that collect samples from the affected food to test.
Authorities have promised to take strict action against those who are responsible if negligence is proven. A four has already been registered against the persons accused of causing mass food poisoning.
