Lanterns is set to * Ahem * light the way for a number of DC Universe (DCU) projects arriving next year. Invoiced as a Sci-Fi Detective TV series, it must be released in early 2026, which means it will be the next DCU production that lands on our screens.
Before it is launched, you will have lowdown on what we know about HBO Max TV original. In this guide, I have rounded off the latest information about the green lantern-star show, including my release date forecast, its confirmed role crew and plot synopsis, and when a first teaser may be revealed.
So take on your Green Lantern Ring, ask everyone to look after your power, and let’s dive in.
Lanterns release date prediction
Tightened that #lanterns are now in production. DC Studios’ new show for @hbo and Max, from creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, & @tomkingtk, starring Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre, is something really special. @Streamonmax @dcofficial pic.twitter.com/fodpg3mf1cFebruary 27, 2025
Lanterns Don’t have a confirmed launch date yet. During a press event in February 2025 (as reported by Deadline), DC Studios Co chief James Gunn and Peter Safran said they were sure it would premiere in early 2026.
As for when I think it will debut at HBO Max – and hopefully in regions on other platforms where one of the best streaming services has not been launched yet – I predict an arrival from March 2026.
I have no insider -knowledge but i know the next Game of Thrones prequel, A knight of the seven kingdomsarriving in January with Pitt Season 2. If they end at the end of February and/or early March, Lanterns should have an unobstructed run by being the big dog on HBO and its streaming sister.
With the New York Comic-Con around the corner, it is possible that an actual release date could be confirmed before rather than later. At the time of writing, however, there is no official word about whether it will happen, so we may not know the launch date for a few months yet.
Lantern’s trailer: Is there one?
No. Normally, trailers are released to new HBO -TV shows not until a few months before they air, so we may not see one to Lanterns Until December 2025 or January 2026.
It is always possible that a teaser could be released earlier than expected. As with its launch date, New York Comic-Con would be an ideal time to debut in it. However, I do not see that it is more likely that a trailer is more likely to be displayed on Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP) in December.
When a teaser eventually falls online, I update this paragraph.
Lanterns Role crew: confirmed and rumored
Potential spoilers follow for Lanterns.
Here is the confirmed role crew Lanterns – those who have been announced by DC Studios, anyway – so far:
- Aaron Pierre as John Stewart
- Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan
- Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner
- Ulrich Thomsen as TBC
- Kelly macdonald as tbc
- Garret Dillahunt as TBC
- Poorna Jagannathan as TBC
Of the above Septuplet, Pierre and Chandler’s commitment to Lanterns Was confirmed in October 2024. The duo is also ready to play two fan favorite versions of Green Lantern, with Pierre as John Stewart and Chandler as Hal Jordan.
Meanwhile Fillions Guy Gardner is set to appear in its third DCU project after the 2025s Superman Movies and Peacemaker Season 2 .. Talking to Entertainment Weekly (EW), Fillion said Gardner will be “a little higher tense” in this show than in the previous two projects.
They may not be the only green lanterns that emerge. Under the DCU chapter a line-up’s full reveal in January 2023, Gunn said: “We have a few other lanterns that have been pepped in there,” then your bets now place on other members of Green Lantern Corps. We’ll see.
There is a lot – and I mean a lot – Of other actors who are either confirmed to appear (per Warner Bros. Press message), but whose roles have not been publicly identified or only involved in being involved. So strap in because we’re about to discuss them all.
Initially, Lanterns‘Primary antagonist is expected to be Sinestro. A former green lantern, who was relieved of his duties to abuse his power, Sinestro has been a long time enemy of Green Lantern Corps. In January, the deadline claimed that Ulrich Thomsen had been thrown as Supervillain. While Gunn and co. Has not officially ratified this, the Danish actor has since confirmed on Instagram that he will play Sinestro (see above).
Kelly MacDonald is reportedly going to play a local sheriff named Kerry (per variation), while Poorna Jagannathan has been exploited to play Zoe, with a deadline suggesting she will be John Stewart’s love interest. Deadline also reported that Garret Dillahunt was involved as modern cowboy William Macon, but Variety has since indicated that the role has gone to Jason Ritter. It’s so unclear who Dillahunt will play.
Elsewhere, Deadline J. Alphonse Nicholson believes will make a younger version of Stewart’s father. Deadline also claimed that Jasmine Cephas Jones will produce a younger iteration of Stewart’s mother, which suggests Lanterns will include flashbacks to John’s childhood. Current versions of Stewart’s parents will apparently be played by Sherman Augustus (again per deadline) and Nicole Ari Parker (via Variety).
But wait there’s more. Chris Coy is on board as a nervous truck driver called Waylon (per deadline), and in another exclusive, the deadline claimed that Paul Ben-Victor has signed to play Antaan, a stranger “devoted to postponing the truth and demanding revenge against those unknown to his people”. Finally, Deadline has also signaled that Cary Christopher will play a charming little town called Noah.
Lanterns story synopsis and speculation

Potential spoilers follow for Lanterns.
Here is Lanterns‘Official Logline:’ The series follows the new recruiter John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic police drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heart country. “
Not much to continue, but we have some extra details about the DCU Chapter One TV series.
For one, Lanterns‘Chief Creative Team consists of a trio of top writers: Damon Lindelof (LostAt Watchmen), Chris Mundy (Ozark), and Tom King. King is a prominent comic book -Slearde who is best known for money Supergirl: Tomorrow WomanLike DCU’s upcoming Supergirl Movies are strongly inspired by.
The group’s collective genre plants will be integrated into the tone and style of Lanternsalso. Described as a Space COP version of Real detectivealias one of the best HBO Max shows of Gunn (per EW), Lindelofs ‘new strange’ sci-fi sensitivity, combined with Mundy’s penchant for criminal thrillers and King’s cartoon expertise, feels at home in this DCU production.
When one elaborates further on this prerequisite, Kinematographer James Hawes told the Hollywood Reporter (Thr) that “in many ways, [it’s] A friendship structure … it’s really sophisticated “. Next to Real detectiveHawes named No country for old men and Fargo As notable americana-like influences on the eight-part series.
As for who wants to be the true star of the show, Gunn told CBS MORNING (see above) that John Stewart is its protagonist. Per Ew will Stewart be Lantern Corps’ latest recruits, and Jordan, one of the best of the intergalactic space policy agency, will be tasked with educating him. A Vanity Fair piece also says that Jordan looks at retirement as a green lantern, and thus the need for Stewart to replace him.
As part of this Vanity Fair article, Mundy revealed that it won’t be a completely superhero affair. โIt’s a series exploring who these guys are when they’re on the job and When they are out of uniform, โhe says, so we will definitely see Jordan and Stewart’s civilian life with their super -powered responsibility.
Like PeacemakerThis DCU post will not be family friendly. Given the murder mystery at the center of its narrative, it is a given, but other mature content will also be part of the procedure. As Fillion told EW: “I’ve dropped more F-bombs in that project than I have in, I think my whole career composed”. Expect Lanterns To lean more into only adult territory than what goes to a PG-13 TV show.
Will there be another season of lanterns?
Showrunner Chris Mundy says lanterns don’t need any DCU homework: “We’re not part of a larger storytelling plan right now. Season 1 is designed to be its own, complete season of TV, which hopefully will be many seasons with TV.” pic.twitter.com/ltrmk8bgsdAugust 15, 2025
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but when he spoke to Vanity Fair, Mundy outlined his hope for more seasons down the road.
“We’re not part of a larger storytelling plan right now, he said.” Season one is designed to be its own, complete season of TV that hopefully will be many seasons of TV “. If you want to Lanterns To be a multi -season project, you should rather set up when it is released.
How will lanterns affect the rest of DCU?
Right now is the potential effect of one of Most exciting DCU chapter 1 movie and TV shows about future productions are unclear. As Mundy mentioned above, Lanterns Currently treated as an independent story, with very few ties to Gunn and Safran’s beginning film franchise.
Depending on how the series – or rather its first season – ends, there may be room for HBO’s Green Lantern project to lead in other DCU movies and shows. Until it launches, however, we are not the wiser knowing what role it may have in wiping out Warner Bros’ comic-inspired universe.
