Larger cities under strict security such as Muharram 9 -Processions Continue

Larger cities across the country, including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar, observe Muharram 9. Processions on Saturday under increased security, with mobile phone services suspended in some areas and key spaces sealed in the midst of fear of unrest.

The authorities of Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar deployed tens of thousands of police personnel, sealed sensitive areas and partially suspended mobile font services in the effort to prevent inappropriate incidents.

In Karachi, the most important Muharram 9th procession begins at 1 p.m. 13:00 from Nishtar Park. Before the procession, a Majlis (Religious Collection) is held in Nishtar Park, where Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi will deliver a sermon. After Majlis, Imamia Students Organization will lead Congregational Zuhrain beans.

The procession will follow its traditional route – reviewed through Numaish, Saddar, Radio Pakistan, Jamia Cloth and Denso Hall – before completing the Husainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar. All security arrangements are completed to the event.

In Lahore, the main process began at. 10am in City’s Pandu Street area. The Punjab police spokespersons reported that more than 147,000 officers and staff were stationed throughout the province to secure 1,689 processions and nearly 3,900 Majalis (religious gatherings). In Lahore alone, 79 Processions and 378 Majalis are protected by more than 10,000 officers.

Special instructions have been issued for Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (pru). All teams maintain constant coordination with Rescue 1122, four brigade, Rescue 15 and other relief services. Special attention is paid to the safety of women and children.

“The whole province is on a high alarm,” said Punjab -Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar. “We are strictly enforcing section 144 and the speaker law.”
