- A new update for Windows 11 24H2 is not able to install for some
- While this has happened before, reports appear more widespread with the July update
- There are other concerns as well, such as overheating problems and buggy mouse behavior
Windows 11’s latest update (for version 24h2) refuses to install for some people – which is not a new problem – and there are scattered reports of others about problems with the July update.
Windows latest reports that it suffered an installation error in itself, making the update work, but by rebooting that Windows 11 ends up scrolling back upgrade (with an error).
Numerous readers of the tech site have repeated this experience, with the July update either, either failing for them (not even when the restart phase) or stuck before they hit 100%. There are other reports of the update that actually freeze the PC, which also requires a hard reset.
In addition, there are several complaints about Reddit about installation errors, all of which happen to the usual strange and unhelpful error codes (such as ‘0x8007371B’ to choose an example, which means exactly nothing – and googling does not help either).
In the Reddit wire there are also different reports of all kinds of problems, some of which may only affect individual users – and who may be outliers with their system – but there are a few notable errors that emerge repeatedly.
They include a user’s mouse steming after applying the update – or “The mouse that flashes on the load icon every two seconds” – as well as general performance problems and crackling sound in a few cases.
Some people also encounter hot -related problems, with a complaint that the update made a snapdragon x plus laptop driven warmer. Another person said their notebook also struggles with hot and high GPU use, where others observed high CPU temperatures.
There are also a few problems reported with USB -peripheral devices and docks.
Finally, Microsoft said a problem with Windows 11 Firewall, where it is logging errors that are actually false, are resolved with the July update, but many users say it hasn’t.
So if you see firewall-related mistakes at all, just ignore them. The good thing is that this is a completely harmless bug and nothing is actually wrong with System Firewall. The error messages themselves are the errors, ironically.
Analysis: Keep an eye on these bugs
While complaints about updates that fail are not uncommon, it seems to be more than usual with this latest update to Windows 11. Okay, so the odds are very much that you do not run into this error and these are probably still relatively isolated events in the larger image. However, the fact that these problems seem more widespread than usual is still a red flag.
If you encounter such a installation failure, try manually install the July update instead (from the Microsoft update catalog). I would not recommend that for anyone, but more technically savvy Windows 11 users, mind-for most people, I would just suggest that you wait until the installation problems are ironed by Microsoft. Yes, you will be without the latest security fixes for a while, which is not ideal – so remember that in mind and be extra sure with regard to your browsing (or other computing) habits.

The promised firewall solution – which does not work – is a strange, although a solution that does not actually solve an error as intended is hardly a first for Microsoft. It is still not an actual problem, as mentioned.
Some of the overheating questions are far more worrying, but since reports are still relatively thin on the ground, we cannot jump to conclusions yet. However, these are definitely worth monitoring to see if more complaints in these lines appear. Ditto with the erratic mouse’s behavior and error with USB -peripheral devices.
