Lawyers require the release of Imran Khan

Lahore:

An Law Convention held in Lahore on Saturday demanded immediate release by former Prime Minister Imran Khan and political workers when it called for all national issues to be resolved through dialogue while calling for the use of force.

A statement issued under the Convention organized by the Lahore High Court Bar and Lahore Bar’s All Pakistan Attorney General also demanded that all political workers’, which have been subjected to enforced the disappearance outside the constitutional and legal framework “were immediately released.

The Convention also strongly condemned the recent changes to Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), in which he said these changes violate fundamental rights – freedom of expression and press.

“The lawyers also express solidarity with journalists and media workers throughout Pakistan fighting for freedom of speech,” the statement added.

The Convention also defended Pakistan’s rightful claim of water during the Indus Water’s Treaty (IWT), which India unilaterally suspended after a militant attack in Kashmir on April 22.

“The statement strongly condemns India’s attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty. The rapid reaction of Pakistan -armed forces, especially the Pakistani Air Force, is highly appreciated,” it added.

By tackling the convention, senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja earlier said that lawyers bear the great responsibility to tell the people that their vote was stolen in the February 2024 election.

“A system built on lies has been imposed on us. The 26th constitutional amendment is part of this untruth. After rigging the election, there was an attempt to control our courts,” he said.

Raja, who belongs to Imran Khan’s PTI, said that those who rich the election cannot tolerate democracy in this country. He said for 78 years that democracy has been repeatedly attacked.
