- Asahi Linux Lead -Developer Hector Martin resigns
- Intense community requests and complaints are responsible
- Martin misses a time when he could relax and not worry about the project
Hector Martin has retired as the project’s lead for Asahi Linux, a popular Linux-Distro designed specifically for M-Series Macs, citing Burnout as the key driver.
Martin also claimed that conflicts within the Linux community had led to his decision to resign, with resistance from some Linux developers who added his workload.
In a long letter informing the community of his resignation, Martin explained that a personal “dream project”, which was once funny, has become more of a task.

Martin detailed how he and his colleagues built the Apple Silicon-Destined Linux Distro “from scratch, with zero supplier support or documentation,” recognizing that it was more difficult to build this particular distro than run Linux on a PS4.
However, it seems that the real reason why Martin has decided to leave was what he called “with the title users”-during the years the developer says he has received hundreds of requests and complaints relating to battery life, USB-C displays and next generation of M-Series Chip Support.
He wrote: “No matter how much we did, how many impossible feats we pulled off, people would always have more. And more. “
Martin avoided burnout by limiting the amount of time he spent in certain areas that core upstream, but it came to the point that Asahi Linux development interfered in his personal life.
In addition to users, Martin explained that despite Linux creator Linus Torvalds, who expressed a desire for Linux to work smoothly on the M-series Macs, Finnish developed Martin’s request to discuss the challenges of the operating system.
He summarized, “I miss having free time where I can relax and not worry about the features we haven’t sent yet,” confirms, “I resign as the lead of the Asahi Linux project that is immediately with effect.”
At the end of his letter, Martin revealed that anyone who has financially supported him should consider supporting Asahi Linux Opencollective from now on and that he is open to new work.
