Lee Elia, a long -time baseball -lifer, who is perhaps best known for his Epic 1983 -rant, died this week at the age of 87.
Elia played in 95 Big League matches and managed 538 with Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. But that was after one of these games when Eliah may have gave one of the most legendary Rants of the time.
On April 29, 1983, Elia Skipper was for the kids as they fell to 5-14 with a 4-3 loss to Los Angeles Dodgers. The Wrigley field of 9,391 threw garbage against Keith Moreland and Larry Bowa as the kids went to the clubhouse.

Elia responded with an explosive RANT against Cubs fans that included at least 40 F bombs.
“FK these f — ing fans who come out here and say they are Cub fans who need to be behind you and tear every F — ing things you do,” began Eliah. “I want to tell you a f — ing thing, I hope we get f — ing warmer than s —, just to fill it up them 3,000 f — ing people who show up every F — ing day, because if they are the real chicago f — ing fans, they can kiss my f-ing a-like in the center.”
It was just the beginning of the three-Plus-Minut-Tirade that was caught on a lonely microphone in the clubhouse that day.
As part of his remarks, he declared that 85% of the world was working while the other 15% come out here. ” Back then, there was no light on Wrigley Field, and Cubs only played day games at home.

“‘They are really, really behind you here.’ My f — ing a–, ”Eliah continued. “What f — should I do, go out there and let my f — ing players get ruined every day and be quiet about it? For they f — ing nickel-dime people who show up? The mother — Ers don’t even work. That’s why they’re out at the F-ing game.
Elia, a native from Philadelphia, had a 238-300 record of four seasons as a large league manager, two with the kids and two with Phillies. He was a shortstop during his gaming career, batting .203 with three homers and 25 RBIs in 95 games with White Sox and Cubs. He was the third base coach when Phillies won the World Series from 1980.
