Leicestershire Sign Shan Masood at All-Format Deal

Leicestershire has signed Pakistan-Test Captain Shan Masood on an all-format agreement for the summer of 2025.

The 35-year-old, who monitored a test series victory against England last year, will bring experience and turn pedigree to Grace Road. He will begin his stint in May after the end of Pakistan Super League and was to make his Leicestershire debut on May 31 against his former county, Derbyshire.

The move confirms the end of Masood’s association with Yorkshire after the culmination of a two-year deal that saw him the Captain Club since 2023. The left-handed opens a total of 1,240 county championship ran an average of 53.91 in 15 games, which helped Yorkshire earn promotion to Division One in 2024.

He had originally moved to Headingley after an impressive summer 2022 with Derbyshire, scoring 1,078 first -class runs at 82.61. It was during this stint, in April, Masood hit 219 against Leicestershire in a lap of victory and became the first Derbyshire dough to scored back-to-back double centuries after 239 against Sussex the week before.

Masood has been uncovered 90 times by Pakistan across all formats, including 42 test caps, and joins club captain Peter HandsComb and Holland all -round Logan van Beek as Leicestershire’s overseas options for the upcoming campaign. He is expected to be available throughout the season without test matches planned over the English summer. That could change if the PCB decides to remember him for their limited-over-set setup for a tour of the Caribbean starting on July 31, although Masood’s last international white-ball performance came in May 2023.

“I’m really excited to have the chance to play all three formats for Leicestershire. I’ve always admired the club and have had good conversations with a lot of the team for the past three seasons,” Masood said in a statement released Tuesday.

“I love to play on Uptonsteel County Ground. The fans come behind the team in strong numbers and the games I’ve been a part of have always been a big spectacle. The club has been very competitive in all formats and produced some amazing young players in the last few years. It’s an exciting time to join Foxes.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “We are happy to welcome any of Shan’s caliber to Leicestershire. He is a proven talent both internationally and in the county cricket, and one that can win matches in all three formats.

“Shan ends a fantastic line-up of overseas additions to our team. His leadership and experience will be invaluable to the team both on and off the field.”
