- Leaked photos of Lenovo Legion Go 2 indicates that the new handheld will have Steamos variants
- The new device appears on IFA 2025 in Berlin
- It’s coming in the middle of Microsoft’s upcoming ‘full -screen experience’ for ROG XBOX ALLY X
IFA 2025 is starting in Berlin, Germany, and recent leaks have indicated that the brand new Lenovo Legion Go 2 will be revealed. Fortunately, it has given us more insight into what to expect.
As reported by NoteBookcheck, one of the leaked images from Evan Blass (Evaleaks on X) shows Lenovo Legion Go 2 using Valves Steamos, suggesting that the device will at least have a Steamos variant. This would follow in the same footprints as its Lenovo Legion Go’s counterpart, which has both AMD Ryzen Z2 Go and Ryzen Z1 Extreme Steamos models.
It may not come as a huge surprise as Valves Steamos is constantly growing in popularity, especially for handhelds with access to bazzite (a Steamos clone). And Lenovo seems to be sure of the operating system with Legion Go 2.
While Legion Go 2 was announced and revealed earlier in January on CES 2025, it was only a prototype and it still hasn’t left that phase. However, the prototype seems to be identical to the model we can see in the leaked reproductions (available below), in terms of ergonomics, and it will still use AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 Extreme.
Lenovo is likely to stick to Microsoft’s Windows 11 as the most important operating system (for one or more of its models) as expected. After all, Lenovo is the only mainstream manufacturer who has some of its handheld devices (obviously outside Valves Steam Deck), officially licensed by Steamos, and the Linux-based us who come to another Lenovo handheld, is a good sign that the valve may be bringing steamers to other hand.
It is also worth noting that the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X from Asus and Microsoft will be launched with a new ‘full screen experience’ on Windows 11, which essentially uses the Xbox PC app to provide a handheld friendly user experience, almost repeated Valv’s Steamos. When this rolls out to other handhelds next year, it will be interesting how will cope with Valv’s Magnum Opus.
Analysis: This is great for other handhelds if Lenovo and Valve keep this up
I will be honest the farther away I can get from Microsoft’s Windows 11, especially On handheld games -PCs, the better, and I love what Lenovo and Valve do with Legion Go handheld.
This paving way for other mainstream producers like ASUS or MSI eventually bringing Steamos to their devices and I can tell you that my experience with the MSI Claw 8 AI+ makes me want it more than anything else. I’m sure the new Xbox full-screen experience will be good on Windows 11, but I feel it’s too late to win me, as I’ve said before.
Again, there is no official confirmation that Steamos is coming to Lenovo Legion Go 2, but I’m almost sure it will, as it would be weird for it to be in a reproduction for the upcoming unit, and also the same is already done with Legion Go S.
I do not get Legion Go 2, especially if it will be priced for it, it is speculated to be, but it is certainly gratifying to see the valve look beyond its steam tires in the effort to improve portable gaming experiences.
