- Lenovo expands his lead when Windows 10’s end is burning for demand
- IDC reports strong growth driven by large-scale corporate and education hardware updates
- Organizations upgrade aging systems to maintain security and compliance
Lenovo has expanded its already significant lead in the global PC market as companies rush to replace aging Windows 10 systems before Microsoft officially ends the support for the loved us on October 13.
The latest preliminary data from IDC shows that global shipments grew 9.4% years over years to reach 75.9 million units in the third quarter of 2025 and marked another strong period of improvement for the PC industry.
Lenovo sent 19.4 million units and took 25.5% of the market and grew 17.3% from last year. HP followed second place with 15 million units for a 19.8% share, while Dell reached 10.1 million of 13.3%.
Japan leading purchases
Apple and ASUS end the top five respectively with 6.8 million and 5.9 million shipments.
“While the entire market continues in a very strong year, driven by the Windows 11 transition and the need to replace an aging installed base, the results of regions tell different stories,” said Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice president with IDC’s worldwide mobile device trackers.
“In particular, the North American market is still affected by the US import tariff shock and macroeconomic uncertainties. While existing, the demand for newer PCs is ready for Windows 11 to probably push well into 2026,” he said.
Asia and the Pacific led the growth with double -digit winnings.
“Demand was largely driven by Japan’s Hardware Update linked to Windows 10 support training and the Giga Education Project,” said Maciek Gornicki, Senior Research Manager at IDC.
“Growth outside of Japan was more modest -hindered by macroeconomic and political challenges and slow Windows 11 resolution -although there were pockets of options from hardware updates of devices purchased during and before the Covid -19 pandemic.”
Much of the new demand IDC looks for modern PCs from life cycle management rather than any great enthusiasm for the latest AI-capable devices.
With Windows 10 life’s life within touch distance, organizations are simply encrypted to ensure that their systems are replaced or updated before supporting and security risks increase.
