- Lenovo’s AI-stick connects to non-NPU PCs, AI-powered abilities add
- Developed on MWC 2025 remains pricing and availability unknown
- The device is compact, about 9 cm long and requires a Thunderbolt -Port
If you want to take advantage of AI capacities on device but are not currently on the market for one of the many smart new laptops with built-in NPUs, Lenovo is working on a few exciting solutions.
The first of these is the AI display, which is a screen that has a built-in discreet NPU that not only adds intelligent features to the screen but can also add AI functionality to non-IA-Laptop or desktops. The other is the AI-stick, a small brick-like device that connects to any non-NPU-equipped PC.
Both of these concepts were displayed on MWC 2025, and although there is no word about pricing or availability for neither unit yet, I cannot imagine that Lenovo will hang too long before launching them.
Thunderbolt required
Although we do not know the dimensions of the AI stick, based on the rendering that Lenovo has shared with a USB -C cable connected to it, it seems to be about 9 cm long -so rather small.
Lenovo says about the AI-Pinde that it will provide “users with a non-NPU-equipped PC access to advanced AI features such as local large language models (LLM) and AI-enhanced graphics apps on their device.”
The company continues to explain that the device “contains a 32-top NPU that connects to a PC via a USB-C Thunderbolt port to allow the PC to use Lenovo AI now functionalities and can also be connected to a wall plug to loosen maximum performance for demanding AI tasks.”
Lenovo AI is now the PC manufacturer’s personal assistant designed to increase productivity and automate tasks on the company’s various AI-run devices.
While the AI stick, like the AI display, is a good idea, it is one that is unfortunately limited by the fact that any PC you are using it needs a Thunderbolt port. If you were hoping to give AI Smarts to the older laptop or desktop, it looks like you’re going to be out of luck.
