Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui has claimed that prison PTI founder Imran Khan’s letter to the Chief of Army Staff (Coas) Gen Asim Munir was a proof of the former “despair and frustration”.
In a statement on Wednesday, Senator called Imran’s letter to the army chief an “prosecutor” and said the former prime minister had also sent a letter to Coas via former President Arif Alvi in 2023.
“The [PTI] Did not receive a receipt or a response to the previous letter and will not receive this time, ”Siddiqui added.
Two days earlier, PTI President’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and lawyer Faisal Chaudhry confirmed that Imran, jailed in Adiala Prison, wrote a six-point letter to the Army Chief to call for review of policies while explaining the reasons for it, He called the Extension The Gulf between the Public and the Army.
He clarified that it was not a political shift and that the imprisoned party -founder wrote a letter from the party’s founder of the army chief and that the imprisoned party -founder wrote the letter as a former prime minister.
The 71-year-old cricketer-facing politician has been behind pillars since August last year, after being booked in several cases ranging from corruption to terrorism since his exhaust from power via opposition movement without Trust in April 2022.
However, a day earlier claimed that no letter was received from the imprisoned former Prime Minister of Coas Munir. Sources added that the news of Khan’s letter came to the military brass via the media.
The letter comes weeks after PTI leaders -Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan -met the army chief, where the party’s chairman said they discussed the overall security situation.
It also matters when the former reigning party ended its negotiations with the PML-N-led coalition government last month, when PTI had demanded two things formation of legal commissions on events that happened on May 9, 2023 and November 24-27 and release of “All political prisoners”, including Khan.
The letter
According to Chaudhry, the first point of the letter addresses the “fake choice” and the alleged promotion of money laundering. The second point discusses the impact of the 26th constitutional amendment on judicial independence and the rule of law. Khan also referred to Al-Qadir Trust Case judgment in the letter.
The third item criticizes the law on the prevention of electronic crimes (PECA) stating that it has become weapons to suppress dissent and crack down on social media.
The fourth point highlights cases of terror prosecutor, attack and use of force against PTI workers. Khan also wrote that threats to journalists harm the army’s reputation.
The fifth point concerns the intelligence agencies’ operations, while the last point focuses on the economy.
Khan claimed that the current government weakened the economy by artificially controlling the value of the rupe. He also raised concerns about low investment and shutdowns of the Internet.
Chaudhry added that Khan called on the army chief to rethink the policies and called for the formation of a judicial commission.
