LHC assigns Ejaz Chaudhry bail in three cases 9 May

Lahore High Court has given bail to Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf leader Ejaz Chaudhry in three separate cases related to the events 9 May and vandalism.

Express News reported that the court announced its reserved judgment on three bail petitions filed by Chaudhry. The two-member bench, led by justice sewed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, heard the petitions and approved bail in all three cases.

During the hearing, Chaudhry’s Council argued, Mian Ali Ashfaq, that his client had been mistakenly implicated in three cases, including the torch of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office and a container in the Lahore Gulberg area.

He claimed that the trial had failed to assess the cases of the cases correctly, while the PTI founder in the same cases had already received bail. After reviewing the arguments, LHC assigned bail to Chaudhry in all three cases.

On Tuesday, LHC expressed strong dissatisfaction with the prosecutor’s failure to submit the case register in the PTI leader’s petition, which was filed in connection with the rebellion on May 9. During the case, the extra prosecution stated the court that he did not have the required listing.

The bench questioned the delay and noted that three months had gone despite a clear written order that directed the submission of the mail. “What have you done all this time? The court needs to be informed,” the judges noted, expressing dissatisfaction with the prosecution’s behavior.

The court noted that three separate cases were under consideration and ordered that the complete listing was presented before the next consultation.

Ashfaq, who represented Chaudhry, claimed that his client was false implicated and arrested without any concrete proof, allegedly over activity on social media. He said there was no recovery of Chaudhry and that he had been taken into custody from Islamabad during his retention period.

Separately, the LHC lawyer called General Punjab and the chief secretary about the next consultation of Jamaat-e-Islami’s petition, which challenged the provincial government’s failure to hold.
