Rawalpindi:
Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, who serves on the Rawal Pindi bench at LHC, on Thursday presented his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari and requested its immediate acceptance.
After his resignation, he ceased to perform his legal tasks and informed the LHC High Court, Aalia Neelum, about his decision. In his severance letter, Justice Aziz quoted personal commitments as the reason for stepping down.
Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) President and Senior Attorneys expressed surprise at his resignation and called it a significant loss to the judiciary.
Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz was appointed judge for LHC in November 2016 and had earned in this capacity for the last eight and a half years. During his term of office, he handed in decisions on 40,000 cases.
He ranked 19. On the seniority list of judges and was scheduled to retire on September 8, 2033, which means he had eight years back in his legal career. Known for his professionalism and independence, he was considered a judge who did not succumb to any external pressure.
