Islamabad:
LHC’s righteousness Sultan Tanvir Ahmad, while announcing a reserved judgment on the petition filed by Kisan Board President Zafar Hussain on non-fixing wheat prices, has ordered the Punjab government to implement the law to set wheat prices.
The court also included in its decision the report from the agricultural department on the costs per year. MUUND – 40 kg – wheat.
It noted that the Government Attorney declared that a law has been passed for price provision. However, it said the government institutions could not perform their constitutional role.
With reference to an agricultural department’s report, it said the cost per 40 kg of wheat this year is RS3.533.
The order stated that government institutions have acknowledged that wheat is an important component of food security. The Kisan Board president had approached the LHC on April 8, 2025, over the provincial government’s failure to set wheat prices.
