LHC takes up plea against removal of judges

.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan and the Advocate General Punjab, seeking their help in a petition challenging the de-notification of sitting judges from election courts.

The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

Justice Khalid Ishaq was hearing the petition filed by PTI leader Rao Umar Hashim, who was represented by lawyer Sameer Khosa.

The petitioner alleged that changes were made to the Electoral Act to illegally appoint retired judges to the Electoral Courts. It was further argued that the ECP has no power to transfer election petitions from one court to another.
