Lionel Richie has opened up around a rarely seen side of his late friend Michael Jackson.
In his debut memoir Indeed76 year olds All night long Hitmaker revealed that the king of pop was nicknamed “smelly” because of his unusual hygiene habits.
“His daily life was what you could call eccentric,” Richie wrote. “Like an absent -minded professor, but still a child.”
According to Richie, music legend Quincy Jones would often ghostly tease Jackson.
However, the pop star wanted to laugh, apparently unaware that he sometimes went for a few days without changing or washing his clothes.
Despite the quirky habit, Richie Jackson’s extraordinary lifestyle and constant creative grinding emphasized a role.
“He was touring and appearing in detailed costumes made for him by his stylists, or he was in his pajamas and slippers in the studio,” he added.
“Or at home in something loose and comfortable so he could practice his dance traits and play with his menagerie of pets,” Richie remembered.
While Richie described Jackson as “very close to his siblings and his mother,” he noticed that sometime Thriller Singer went solo and became the most famous entertainer in the world, “he was responsible for his own ship” system and all.
“Michael would also laugh and realize he was forgetful,” Richie added. “We all have our quirks.”
