Locally designed PNS Sahiwal launched on Karachi Shipyard

The Pakistani navy on Thursday launched the locally designed and developed gun boat PNS Sahiwal at a ceremony held at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS & EW).

Deputy Manager of the Navy Staff, Deputy Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, attended the event as a main guest. The ship, which was developed under the Navy’s policy for indigenization and confidence, is designed by the navy’s platform design wing and was under construction at KS & EW.

When we talked on the occasion, Deputy Admiral cared car grami collaborative efforts from the platform design wing and KS & EW and described the project as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s original shipbuilding ability.

He also recognized the Ministry of Defense Production (ModP) for its continued support to strengthen the country’s maritime industrial base.

He highlighted the vessel’s capabilities and noted that the gun boat is equipped with high-performance, long-range semi-automatic guns, enabling it to perform a variety of maritime safety operations with improved efficiency.

The platform is designed for versatility and can function effectively in both coastal and open sea environments.

Vice Admiral also stated that the Navy is considering the serial production of similar vessels in support of the ongoing modernization efforts and promotes the sustained growth of local shipbuilding infrastructure.

The ceremony participated in senior officials from Pakistan Navy, Modp, KS & EW and representatives from the shipbuilding industry.
