A low-pressure wall system, has formed over the East-Central Arabic Sea and could be intensified over the weekend, Pakistan’s meteorological authorities said on Thursday.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the weather system was located about 1,075 kilometers southeast of Karachi, near Latitude 16.4 N and Longitude 71.9 E.
According to PMD, the system is currently moving north and can develop into a depression within the next 36 hours. If favorable conditions continue, it can further strengthen into a deep depression or even a cyclonic storm before the 24th or 25th of May.
There is currently no threat to Pakistan’s coastal areas, officials said, but the system is closely monitored by the Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi.
Meteorologists say that hot sea surface temperatures burn the growth of the system. The developing weather pattern is also likely to disrupt Karachi’s sea breeze, leading to extremely warm conditions in the city.
Although a cyclon alarm was released in some parts of India, there is currently no threat to any Pakistani coastal area.
PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center, Karachi monitors the system and will keep the relevant quarters up to date.
