Almost a whole year ago, 11-time LPGA winner Lexi Thompson announced 29 years old at the time she would no longer become a full-time golf player.

At that time, Thompson quoted his mental health as one of the factors that contributed to her decision.

“A lot of people are not aware of … what we are going through as a professional athlete. I want to be the last to say ‘throw me a pity party.’ That’s the last thing I want.

Now, almost 12 full months out of this decision, it seems that Thompson has no regret.

“It’s been very relaxing. Much more time for myself, my family, friends, recently engaged, it’s great to be able to have a life balance now. I’ve been a professional since I was 15 years old, but in the golf world since I was seven. I’m excited to just explore other things that life has to offer,” Thompson said in a recent interview with Pakinomist Digital.

“I’m comfortable with [my decision]. I still plan to play here and there, but more sporadic and more at my time. I’m just trying to find my love for the game again. It’s something that has been a part of my life since I was little. I have always loved the competitive side of it and was always driven to be perfect for golf but you can never be perfect for golf. So it is an ongoing learning challenge. Sometimes it can be very difficult. But yes, it’s been a good decision for me. Mentally I am more at peace, and in that way, when I make it up, these are events I look forward to and that I feel like my game is ready. “

Before Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang joined, there was Thompson – a young wonder child who took the golf world by qualifying for Women’s US Open at the age of 12. Thompson has a major for her name, a number of golf experts probably predicted would be higher at this time.

As women’s sports are gaining more and more popularity, maybe some might have felt that Thompson’s job was growing the game.

However, even comes first, Thompson said.

“I think there’s always the exterior pressure and expectations of the world and just people in the golf industry. But I think what’s most important, you just have to focus on yourself and why I got involved in the game in the first place and my dreams and everything. So can’t really let anyone else’s expectations of you get in the way of it.

Thompson is still active in the golf community, and she helps grow the sport by giving everyday golfers a chance to win a 29-night cruise.
