Luka Doncic Detailed Lakers Trade ‘Shock’ at Introduction Press Conference

Luka Doncic was introduced as a member of Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, days after the team acquired him in a blockbuster trade with Dallas Mavericks.

The trade sent shock waves over the sports world. Lakers sent Anthony Davis and Max Christie to Dallas in a three -team agreement that included Utah Jazz.

The Slovenian superstar said he woke up in the middle of the night to the invitation informing him that he was on the go.

He opened up the feelings he felt when he had to leave the Dallas area, a place he called home since Mavericks acquired him during the 2018 NBA draft in a trade with Atlanta Hawks.

“It was a big shock,” Doncic said. “(Dallas) was home, so it was really tough moments for me. … (but now) I get the game in the biggest club in the world and I’m excited about this new journey.

“Honestly, it was hard at first,” he added. “The first day was really tough. I felt that the last 48 hours were a month. Emotionally it was really hard but today was much better. This is lakers. It’s one of the best clubs in the story, so I’m excited about being here.

Doncic said he was looking forward to playing with LeBron James, whom he describes as his idol.

“It’s like a dream come true,” Doncic said. “I always looked up to him. There are so many things I can learn from him and I’m just excited to learn everything and get to play with him. It’s a great feeling.”

Doncic has not played since Christmas because he has been dealing with a veal. He will participate in 5-to-5 work on Wednesday, and Lakers will later decide when he debuts in purple and gold.
