Maine -Governor Janet Mills released a statement Friday in response to the announcement that the US Ministry of Education will investigate her state to allow Trans athletes to compete in girls’ sports and defy a recent executive order from President Donald Trump.
In Mills’ statement, she suggested that Trump’s investigation into his state’s potential violations of title IX is an indicator that the president will later target people based on their race or religion.
“Maine May [be] One of the first states that underwent a study from his administration, but we will not be the last. Today, the president of the United States has targeted a particular group on a particular question that Maine Law has addressed. But you have to ask yourself: Who and what will he target next, and what should he do? Will that be you? Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end? In America, the president is neither a king nor a dictator, as much as this one tries to act like that – and it is the rule of law that prevents him from being, ”Mills said.
“I can imagine that the outcome of this politically corrected investigation is all predetermined. My administration will start working with the legal attorney to defend Maine -People’s Interests in the Court. But don’t be mislead: this is not just who can compete In the athletic field, this is about whether a president can force compliance with his will, without regard to the rule of law that governs our nation.
Wisconsin prohibits trans athletes from girls’ sports after Trump’s executive order
Mills also insisted that Trump has no authority to withhold federal funding from his state to refuse to comply with his recent executive order to ban Trans athletes from girls and women’s sports, which the president promised to give a speech on Thursday.
“No President – Republican or Democrat – can withhold federal funding authorized and devoted by Congress and paid for by Maine Taxpayers in an attempt to force someone to comply with his will. It is a violation of our constitution and our laws that I took a ed to maintain, ”Mills said.
Maine is the fourth state that has a title IX study launched against it to tread Trump’s order since it was signed on February 5th. DOE announced on February 12 that it would investigate the High School Athletic Associations in California and Minnesota after these states refused to comply with Trump’s recent order.
Prior to it, DOE announced on February 6 that it would investigate Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) together with San Jose State University and the University of Pennsylvania for potential violations of title IX.
Now Maine is connecting this list after a confrontational two days between Trump and Mills.
It started on Thursday when Trump promised to cut back on funding to the state to refuse to follow his order during a collection of Republican governors in Washington.
