Maine Legislature Censures Rep to Calling Trans Athlete Won Girls’ Event

The representatives’ Maine House voted to censor rep. Laurel Libby on Tuesday night for a recent social media post pointed out that a transcend high school athlete won a girls’ competition.

Maine House’s Democratic majority, led by speaker Ryan Fecteau, adopted the censoring decision on Tuesday night with a 75-70 vote. Libby is now no longer allowed to speak on the house base or vote until she sends out an apology.

Libby told Pakinomist Digital in an exclusive interview after the vote she is not planning to apologize for her recent post.

After the censorship was decided, Fecteau Libby told the house members would take a break while Libby considered her apology.

“I told him, ‘We don’t have to take ease’ when I would continue to speak for Maine girls,” Libby said.

Libby’s post came last Sunday when she pointed out that a transgender person with a transgender had taken first place on a Maine Girls’ Pole Vault competition after competing as a boy just a year earlier. The prerequisite for Libby’s distrust of Maine House was focused on the fact that she posted a photo of a minor and provided to minor name.

“It is a remarkable double standard as there are public photos of this person in many places, on social media and even some posted by his school, and then yes, this post became viral, but this was an individual who participated in a public event , who stood publicly on a podium and accepted a championship medal that rightly belonged to the girls who were in second place, ”Libby said.

The house’s majority leader Matt Moonen condemned Libby in a statement on the house base.

“She has irreparably broken the confidence placed in her as a chosen official who serves in this representative house,” Moonen said. “This institution and the whole Maine deserves better.”

The house’s minority leader Billy Bob Faulkingham spoke against mistrust, pointing out that the state legislator’s ethical code does not mention online posts made by the members.

During Tuesday’s vote, Libby came to the housebone with a prepared seven-page talk about the importance of protecting girls’ and women’s sports from trans-cluttering. However, her microphone throughout the night was consistently turned off as she tried to give this speech.

“I was completely unable to get a word out of the other side before the other side shut me down,” Libby said, adding that she had never seen anything similar during her tenure in the Maine legislation.

Libby later sent a video of her giving the speech on Facebook after the hearing.

Libby says that although she does not plan to apologize, she has another course of action that she plans to take to regain her vote and speak privileges, but did not reveal any details of this plan.

Maine Republicans and Libby’s voters are now losing a vote and a vote for other issues in the state’s legislative process in the middle of a busy month.

Libby recently proposed a bill to expand access to mental health resources for Maine residents, which she will now not be able to help push through. In the coming weeks, Maine House will vote on the upcoming semi -annual budget, and Libby will not vote for it either.

“It seems that I will not be able to talk about it or vote on it,” she said.

Libby’s Revelation of the Trans athlete ignited the national conversation and coverage of the state’s policy on trans -cluttering after Maine announced that it would not comply with President Donald Trump’s recent “no men in women’s sports” executive order.

Trump then promised to cut down on funding to the state to refuse to follow his order during a collection of governors in the White House last Thursday.

On Friday, Mills’ office responded with a statement that threatened lawsuits against the Trump administration if it detained federal funding from the state. Then, Trump and Mills sparred verbally in a broadly published argument in the White House during a top species meeting with governors.

Just a few hours after this interaction announced the US Ministry of Education that it will be Examination of the state To allow trans -athletes to compete in girls sports and potential violations of title IX.

Police protection has since been awarded to the high school participating in the trans athlete that Libby identified in his Facebook post, in the midst of concern about security.

A recent New York Times/Ipsos Survey Found the vast majority of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, do not think transnry athletes should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

Of the 2,128 people who participated, 79% biological men who identify themselves as women said should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports. Of the 1,025 people who identified themselves as Democrats or inclined Democrat, 67%said transkon athletes should not be allowed to compete with women.

For Libby, she has her own hypothesis on why democratic legislators in her state and many across the country are struggling so hard to protect Trans -Including in girls’ sports, despite most Americans, and even most Democrats who are against it against it .

“I think Maine Democrats’ attitude is that they haven’t gone hard enough and they have to dig in,” Libby said.

But she expects Democrats to fight for their current attitude and censor her on Tuesday night to strike back on those who move on.

“I think this was a tremendously false mistaken mistake from the Democrats and they are completely wrongly judged on this question and they do not understand how powerful Maine -people disagree with them about this policy and they will at some point regret this action from tonight, “she said.

Libby added that she believes her Republican colleagues have her back as she is fighting distrust.
