A girls’ trace meeting in Maine became the subject of widespread controversy after a trans athlete dominated several running events. The incident took place as the state faces an internal and federal pressure to keep trans athletes out of girls’ sports and a lawsuit on the issue of President Donald Trump’s administration.
A transidentifying athlete competing for the North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Maine, won the girl’s 800 meters and 1600 meters of events. In October 2023, Pakinomist reported Digital that this athlete was transgender. Pakinomist Digital has reached the North Yarmouth Academy for comment.
The athlete has made national headlines in Maine back to that month after jumping to 4th place in the 5K division in the category Girls after previously completing 172. Among the boys. The athlete again gave national headlines to compete in Nordic skiing and take a podium place in Maines High School State Nordic Skiing Championships eventually.

Young said that his 2023 photos of the athlete went so viral on Facebook and asked so much setback that he ended up removing these photos because of the overwhelming response.
“It got too ugly,” Young said.
“Not only did I get it from the people who were to Transgers, I got it from people who were anti-transversors. And I didn’t know what to do and someone finally said, ‘Well, if you just remove the picture, the debate will disappear.’ So I removed the picture and the debate went away.
However, Young said he still plans to send his latest photos of the athlete on his Facebook page, even after what happened last time.
Many of Young’s previous photos of the athlete have become viral on social media in the wake of the athlete’s latest victory. Maine residents, politicians and even national pundits have sent media, including the athlete and led to national debate and attention for the meeting, as Maine faces a continuous internal and federal conflict on the issue.

Libby previously made a Facebook post that identified another trans-athlete that won a girls’ pole vaulting competition. Libby was censored for the position of the legislature’s democratic majority and is currently involved in a lawsuit on the issue.

“The defeat that comes with it at that moment is heartbreaking,” Carlisle said. “I’m just in shock in a way. I didn’t believe it … I didn’t think it happened to me.”
The US Department of Justice announced a lawsuit against the state of Maine for its continued defense against Trump’s executive order to keep biological men out of girls and women’s sports and alleged violations of title IX. Attorney General Pam Bondi Announced the trial at a press conference April 16.
Bondi said she was looking for an injunction and got titles back to the girls who “rightly” won competitions where Trans athletes participated.
The Ministry of Justice accused the state “open and defiant whistling federal law on discrimination by enforcing policies that require girls to compete against boys in athletic competitions who are exclusively appointed for girls,” according to a complaint obtained by Pakinomist.
Meanwhile, Governor Janet Mills, Maine Department of Education and Maine Principal’s Association has held on to support to continue enabling Trans -Inclusion in girls’ sports throughout the state, with reference to Maine Human Rights Act as a precedent to determine gender eligibility.
“I am happy to go to court and litigation the questions raised in this law complaint,” Mills told journalists in April.
