Maine Rep. Laurel Libby has largely been obvious to the issue of transient athletes competing against biological women to the point where she was censored by the State House.
This step was severely criticized by the Boston Globes editorial staff this week.
In a story from its editorial, which exceeded the “Maine Democrats, should stop making Laurel Libby a free utterance martyr,” the outlets said that the voters, “not the house’s management”, should decide whether to “disqualify her.”

“It is not necessary to continue to make a free utterance martyr of Libby. A basic respect for democracy argues to let voters in her district, not the house’s leadership, be those who decide whether her actions disqualify her …” reads the story.
“It was unnecessary for Libby to make this argument by appointing an individual – especially when this person is a minor who had no role in making the rules that Libby is against. But it was perfectly legitimate for her to express a view of what is inevitably a controversial political question …” The piece continued. “A mistrust is one thing when it is just a symbolic statement of rejection. But preventing an elected representative to vote must be a last resort for very serious mismatch and no legislature should make this decision easily.”
Libby filed a lawsuit earlier this month seeking to get her voting rights and talking rights restored. She was initially told that she would have her rights restored if she apologized for the post. However, she has said she will not apologize, but has said she is willing to drop it if her distrust has dropped. She has said she is willing to drop her trial if the censorship falls.
Libby’s state of Maine, according to the US Department of Agriculture, agreed to comply with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order Keeping transient athletes out of women’s sports after very public back and forth.
