The US Department of Agriculture on Wednesday announced that the University of Maine System (UMS) has agreed to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order to keep trans -grown athletes out of women’s sports.
UMS, a network of eight public universities in Maine, was subject to a temporary break in financing from the USDA last week during a continuous fight between the state and the federal government on trans -cluttering in women’s and girls sports. The financing was reintroduced only a few days later.
The USDA now claims that UMS is in full accordance with Trump’s executive order.

“After the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) initiated a title IX Compliance Review on Federal Funding, the University of Maine System (Umaine) has clearly communicated its compliance with title IX’s demand to protect equal opportunities for women and girls to compete in secure and fair sports formulated in President Donald J. Trump’s executive order,” USDA said.
“Any false claim from Umaine can and will result in troublesome and even potentially criminal financial responsibility.”

UMS Chancellor Dannel Malloy made a statement to Pakinomist Digital and said the system is “relieved” to have come to an understanding with USDA.
“The University of Maine System has always maintained its compliance with state and federal laws and with NCAA rules, which the US Ministry of Agriculture also confirmed in a press release today,” Chancellor Malloy said.
“We are relieved to put the department’s title IX Compliance Review behind us, so that Land-Grant University of Maine and our state partners can continue to exploit the USDA and other essential federal means to strengthen and grow our natural resource economy and dependent rural through world-class education, research and expansion.”
