Mills, along with the Justice Department -Auing Attorney Elizabeth Oyer and Immigration and Reform activist Jeanette Vizgura, received the award “for their moral courage and willingness to act according to their beliefs – even with great personal risk.”

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) sued the state of Maine in April when Mills succumbed the president’s executive order to keep men out of girls and women’s sports. Main’s policy of transient participation has been a source of hernia, which led to a public spat between Trump and Mills during a meeting with the governors in February. The USDA Case was one of the few who were filed against the state.

The USDA announced a financing freezing and a review of federal funding for Maine for the state, which allegedly refuses to provide equal opportunities for women and girls in educational programs. USDA secretary Brooke Rollins said at that time that the state must accept to protect female athletes from trans -cluttering before funding would be restored.

Maine sued USDA over the financing freezing and accused the department of “detention of financing used to feed children in schools, childcare centers and programming after school and disabled adults in a total environment.”

The state dropped the lawsuit against the administration when the USDA agreed to restore federal funding earlier this month.

Maine is still facing other legal battles on the issue.
