Maine High School Athletics became involved in another controversy for trans-athlete as state lawmakers have fought against President Donald Trump’s executive order banning biological men from girls and women’s sports.

The athlete helped Maine Coast Waldorf to third place in the women’s competition. Stark-Chessa has been one of the best skiers in the state and served all-western Maine Conferee Honors in Girls Nordic Skiing during the 2023-24 season, according to Sun journal.

The school’s athletic director, Susan Sonntag, defended Stark-Chessa’s participation against colleges in 2023 in a statement to the Daily Mail. However, Trump’s executive order and his public spit with Maine government chief Janet Mills put the state’s policy for sex participation under the microscope.

Trump threatened to remove federal funding from Maine schools if the policy of giving boys the opportunity to participate in girls’ sports. Mills replied that she would see Trump in court on the decision.

Maine Principals’ Association’s (MPA) rules stated that a potential student athlete must “declare their gender identity to their member school if their gender identity differs from the student’s gender assigned at birth.” The rules stated that the school has “the only authority to determine the assignment of gender identity for the purpose of athletic registration and participation in MPA -sponsored events.”

NCAA’s new trans-participating policy is ‘as clear as mud,’ says Riley Gaines

In addition, “no medical records or official documents required to be required to establish a student’s gender identity.”

The Department of Education launched a title IX study of Maine.

Republican state representative Laurel Libby appeared on Outkick’s “The Ricky Cobb Show” earlier this week and called the state’s rules “extreme.”

“That’s the policy that Governor Mills defends against President Trump,” Libby said. “It’s so extreme. It’s an outlier, even among other states that have similar policies. And it’s an extreme position that Mainers do not support.

“Not only does she support this extreme policy, her attitude can cost the state $ 250 million for Maine’s schools, and it’s money that we need to give education to Maine children. It’s a two-for as far as how this hits our state.

Libby called the policy “Incredibly wide” and pointed to a question that the state recently seen over a transnry athlete who won a state title in girls’ pole vault.
