Maine vs. Trump: The school district moves to ban trans athletes from girls’ sports

A school district in Maine is moving to comply with the current federal definition of title IX and Ban Biological Male Trans athletes from Girls’ sports while the state’s government is struggling to enable Trans -Inclusion.

MSAD #70 The school board voted unanimously Monday night to comply with title IX, “only recognizes two genders – biologically male and biological woman, and that all private spaces are separated by biological sex.”

MSAD #70 Superintendent Tyler Putnam told Pakinomist Digital that because of this vote he is now referring to change the district’s policy to prevent trans athletes from competing in girls’ sports.

“The movement instructs me to rewrite our policies to comply with the proposal. It is my interpretation that the school board will be looking to approve policies that adapt biological sex to their specific athletic teams, ie biological men will only play with other biological men and the same for biological women. These policies must be approved by the Political Committee and the board once. ”

MSAD #70 is based in Hodgdon in Aroostook County. It is the northernmost county of the state and voted for President Donald Trump by a 18% margin in the November election. The county also voted for two Republican State Sensors and seven Republican representatives of the State House.

Now the county’s school district is sitting with Trump and its Republican lawmakers in the ongoing battle for Trans Athlete -Including in girls’ sports.

Putnam told Pakinomist Digital that the district has had no communication with state authorities, including the lawyer, Maine Department of Education (MDOE) or Maine Principal’s Association (MPA) on the recent vote.

“We haven’t had communication about this specific movement. Our board, which looks like many people in Maine, has followed back and forth communication between the federal government and the state. We hope for both sides to work together to help support local school districts like ourselves,” Putnam said.

“With the rising educational costs, this is a time we need to work with each other and not against. The board and our staff are priority # 1 is to give our students an education that will have a positive influence on their future in our great state and country. I am proud to work for and be from our small community in Hodgdon, Maine. the state. “

Maine State Rep. Tracy Quint, one of the Republicans representing Aroostook County, praised MSAD #70 for his vote.

“I am encouraged to see our local Maine community stand up to our students by maintaining title IX protection. Ensuring justice, security and privacy for any student must always come before politics. I urge other school districts throughout the state to follow this example and prioritize all their students’ well-being,” Quint told Pakinomist Digital.

Pakinomist Digital has reached Maine Attorney General’s Office and Head of Government Janet Mills’ office for comment.

The state is currently facing tremendous federal pressure to comply with Trump’s executive order to ban trans athletes from girls ‘and women’s sports, but has firmly defied the order under Mills’ leadership.

Maine has been referred to the Ministry of Justice twice over the past month and is facing a federal financing freezing of the US Ministry of Agriculture (USDA)

Maine -Employees filed a lawsuit against the USDA last Monday in response to the agency’s decision to freeze the financing.

A Federal Judge on Friday gave up on Friday that the USDA “must immediately release and release to the state of Maine Maine any federal funding they have frozen or failed or refused to pay due to the state of Maine’s alleged failure to comply with the requirements of Title IX.”

The state’s gorge on trans -Including was then brought forward when Maine State Rep. Laurel Libby identified a trans athlete in a social media post that won a girls’ pole welfare competition for Greely High School in February.

Libby was censored for her social media post on the prerequisite she identified a minor by name and with a photo. However, Libby has since brought a trial of having well censored, arguing that the Trans the athlete had already been identified by other media before her post. The trial has gone to trial in a Rhode Island District Court.

In addition to the incident involving pole vaulter on Greely High School, other cases have affected several girls throughout the state who have had to compete with and share closet space with biological men.

Maine Teen Cassidy Carlisle told Pakinomist Digital about how she had to share a dressing room with a trans student while she was in high school. She then had to compete with another trans -athlete in Nordic Ski last year.

“The defeat that comes with it at that moment is heartbreaking,” Carlisle said. “I’m just in shock in a way. I didn’t believe it. … I didn’t think it happened to me.”
