A deadly boat event took place in Alabama during a major league police tournament on Wednesday morning.
The incident involved several boats at Lewis Smith Lake during the second day of Tackle Warehouse Invitational, as Major League Fishing (MLF) confirmed was a “serious sailing accident,” the organization said in a statement.
WBMA reports that three have now been confirmed dead, while another three have been injured after the multi-boat accident. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified one of the killed as 58-year-old Joey M. Broom from Altoona.

MLF said the incident also involved Flint Davis, a competitive angler from Leesburg, Georgia.
“Out of respect for those involved and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no additional details are released at this time,” MLF said in his statement. “MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency situations. Further updates will be provided as they are confirmed by the relevant authorities.

Davis also released a statement on his Instagram.
“I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and the prayers,” he wrote. “I ask that you keep me and all the other affected people and families in your prayers. I will tell you more when I can.”
The fishing tournament, which was to run through Thursday, has been canceled.
Cullman County EMA confirmed that the crash in the lake happened around 10am. 7 near Miller Bottom, CBS 42 reported. There has been no word about the number of injuries or worse by anyone else involved.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is now investigating the crash.
