A Pakistan International Airlines (Pia) passenger was arrested by French authorities after landing in Paris after allegedly tried to smoke mid -flight and assault of members of the cabin crew, the airline said in a statement Monday.
The incident took place during a Paris-bound flight from Islamabad as the passenger reportedly tried to light a cigarette on board and violate the aviation rules.
According to a Pia spokesman, the man ignored repeated warnings from a female flight and assaulted her physically, twisted her arm and stopped her in the back. He also allegedly tried to attack a flight course and the captain, but crew members grabbed and confiscated the cigarette.
In line with international aviation protocols, the pilot warned French authorities during the flight. The passenger was taken into custody immediately after landing in Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
“The crew’s statements were recorded and medical checks were carried out,” spokesman for the airline said, adding that a formal police complaint had been filed. “French laws regarding such behavior are strict and we expect no relief in this case.”
The individual has been permanently blacklisted from flying with Pia. “Our cabin crew showed remarkable professionalism under pressure. The law will now take its way,” the spokesman added.
