- Marathon Deluxe Edition owners have discovered a Silk exploit that lets them run Reward Pass
- The bug lets players save Silk by restarting their game over and over again
- Bungie has previously said it would ban players for cheating
Marathon players who purchased the Deluxe Edition have already uncovered an exploit that allows them to run the reward pass faster.
Bungie’s dark sci-fi first-person shooter finally launched across PC and consoles yesterday, and the studio may have to implement a fix soon thanks to a resource bug that causes players to complete their Reward Pass within a day.
The purpose of Silk is to progress through the rewards pass. Marathon has a cap of 140 Silk, but the game’s Silk overflow system allows any extra received by Deluxe Edition players to be used by simply restarting the game.
This is where exploitation comes into play. It has been discovered that when players restart the game to get their remaining 60 Silk, they have received the full Deluxe Edition Silk reward again and the error may recur.
INFINITE SILK EXPLOIT:- Restart the game to get the deluxe edition rewards- Bungie gives +200 free silk- Use 140 silk- Restart the game and repeat I think this only works if you have the deluxe edition as they give 200 silk because it doesn’t work at launch. As shown in the exploit guide above, players can use anything but their Silk overflow, log out, restart the game, and the used Silk will be restored, with Reward Pass stages unlocked.
Repeat the process over and over and players have found their reward pass complete.
Technically speakingthis cheats the system, allowing players to access their Reward Pass goodies within minutes if they can’t be bothered to collect the silk by playing the game.
Bungie previously shared a statement condemning cheating of any kind in a blog post last month.
“Anyone found cheating will be banned from playing Marathon forever, no new chances,” the developer warned.
The exploit will likely be fixed soon if brought to Bungie’s attention. The studio has previously rolled back progress for Fate 2 error, but it is unclear right now whether Marathon players who exploited it will be penalized or simply asked to re-lock their entire rewards pass once the exploit is fixed. Time will tell.
