March Madness: Oddsmaker provides insight into the tournament that lacks disturbances

There has not been much madness in March.

In a tournament that is usually filled with disturbances and ash pots, the bracket has gone chalk in many cases.

Just the second time since 2007, and the sixth time ever, Nos. 13, 14, 15 or 16 seeds released a rebellion. And for the second time in tournament history, Final Four contains all # 1 seeds.

Due to the lack of disturbances, Johnny Avello, an oddsmaker at Draftkings, said Bettor has done it this year due to a popular trend.

“There were a lot of Moneyline Parlays. So the bettors have had a very good race,” Avello said.

Another trend in recent years has invested in every revolt in the first round. Despite a low win-loss record, the return on investment would be high thanks to teams like UMBC, Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Peters.

But that trend did not pan this year. The lowest seed to win a game was a # 12 seed, and the spread favored 12. Seed Colorado State against No. 5 Memphis.

2025 March Madness Odds: Best efforts for Florida-Auburn, Houston-Duke

“The favorites won 12 out of the 16 games right up on Thursday and went 9-7 against the number. They were 13-3 on Friday right up and 10-6 against the number. We didn’t see the trend that usually happens,” Avello said.

Duke is now even money to win the title, and Bettors has jumped all on Blue Devils, Avello added.

“They’ve been the team that has been set all year round,” he said, adding that Duke would be at least a 4.5-point favorite, regardless of who it might meet in the final. The Duke is -5.5 against Houston.
