March Madness: Uconns Dan Hurley takes shot on Refs after Florida -tab

Dan Hurley was far from excited with the official in 77-75 Uconn loss to Florida in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday, to the point he warned Baylor, a team in a similar situation facing a No. 1 seed.

Hurleys Huskies got their three-dry chances ended on Sunday afternoon after being just short to Gators, No. 1 seed in the Western Region of the March Madness bracket.

Instead, they went away from the track disappointed, and Hurley did not hack his words for Baylor Bears, waiting to go on the Duke Blue Devils, another # 1 seed.

“Hope they don’t f — you like they f — Ed us. I hope they don’t do it against you, Baylor,” Hurley was heard shouting at the tunnel.

Hurley’s intensity and blunt nature is one of his phone cards and he never comes without an explanation.

He spoke to journalists after the harsh loss of the official, specifically a non-call against one of his players, Alex Karaban, after a Gators player got clear contact with him on shot attempts late in the game.

At that time, Uconn was up, 61-59, with just over three minutes to play.

“Part of (the feeling) is probably just the season when the riot season has been,” Hurley began via USA Today. “The team struggled and fought just to qualify for the tournament, and then how the game played out, up three on the last media (timeout) we have two free -throwing -bound errors.

“With previous teams, we have had problems like what occurs, but the games we were up 15-18, so they weren’t so enlarged. And of course, the Karaban drive on baseline, you know there was a lot of contact there and we were up someone who I think at the time or two potentially. I thought it was a big acting too.”

Looking in the box’s score, Florida was called for fewer errors than Uconn (17 to 24), though they had problems on the free throwing line, which did only 22 of 34 shots. Huskies missed three of their 22 attempts.

“I think that when we go back and watch this movie on the flight today, I think it’s going to crush on looking at these free -throw -bounds -acting again and watching the Karaban finish on the baseline with no call on it,” Hurley admitted.

At # 1 Seed, Florida is one of the favorites to make a national championship race, although there was always a chance that they should go through Uconn, who, like Hurley, struggled to enter the tournament after an up-and-down campaign.

Back-to-back title-players almost drew the disturbance, but they will go back to Storr, Connecticut in the hope of re-grouping for another potential race in the 2025-26 season.
