The Punjab government launches Pakistan’s first ever ration card program on May 1 with the purpose of supporting more than 1.25 million low-income families throughout the province, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced Friday.
When he spoke at a ceremony in Lahore, Maryam said the ‘Punjab ration card’ will provide financial assistance from RS10,000 over a four-month period for families struggling to meet basic food costs. The program is especially focused on the working class and the daily workers.
“This initiative is for those who cannot afford their kitchen kitchen,” she said, adding that the government intends to expand the program beyond the initial 1.25 million families based on available resources.
When Maryam highlighted her government’s wider welfare agenda, Maryam revealed that 30,000 cheap housing units are currently under construction over Punjab, a performance she said surpasses the record for any previous administration.
“In just five months, 30,000 houses are being built. No government in Pakistan’s history has built even 3,000 houses in five years. By the end of this year, 100,000 homes will be completed, God willing,” she said.
“Our goal is to ensure that every deserved citizen has a roof over his head and the means of building a dignified life,” she added.
