Pakistan has made significant progress in mineral exploration with the discovery of significant antimon reserves in Balochistan and the affirmation of gold, copper, nickel and cobalt deposits in Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to Express News, the discovery of Antimon in Balochistan is part of a major commercial project carried out by Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC).
The two companies have formed a 50:50 Joint Venture, which is expected to be officially announced at Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, which is scheduled for April 8-9.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, considerable progress has been made to secure ten mineral blocks, where studies have confirmed the presence of gold, copper, nickel and cobalt.
Meanwhile, efforts are made to explore mineral resources in Chiniot, Punjab, with OGDCL, and the mineral department is participating in discussions to speed up the process.
Pakistan is also investigating opportunities to utilize Oman’s advanced facilities for the refinement of antimony. In addition, steps are taken to adapt mining training with global standards to support the promotion of the sector.
To further develop the mineral sector, OGDCL strengthens its collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and universities. In addition, preparations are underway with remote measurement and geological studies to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Balochistan’s newly discovered antimon reserves.
Experts believe that these discoveries could play a crucial role in increasing Pakistan’s economy and improving the country’s mining sector.
