Karachi witnessed chaotic scenes on Sunday when a protest near Karachi Press Club triggered a massive traffic jam in the area, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
Long queues of vehicles, including cars and two -wheelers, were seen stretching over key areas such as Empress Market, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road and Club Road. Many residents were forced to break their firm on the road with limited food and water, which highlighted the serious impact of the disturbance.
Authorities responded by closing several major routes around Karachi Press Club, including your Muhammad Wafai Road to Mr Kiani Chowrangi and Fawara Chowk, which only worsened the overload.
Citizens went to social media to express their frustration and called on the city’s officials to better manage such situations in the future and ensure that alternative routes are clearly communicated.
Section 144 imposed in Karachi
Monday, SINDH Government ordered section 144 across Karachi and banned the gatherings of more than five people in the midst of concern over potential protests.
The restriction aims to tackle concerns about public security and maintain order in the midst of potential disturbances. Officials have warned that offenders will face litigation under the relevant provisions.
As a precaution, all roads around Karachi Press Club were sealed with parked vehicles shortly after the announcement was released, causing serious traffic jams in the area.
