Masters Moment: Max Homa delivers inspirational quote after cutting down

It’s already a big deal.

But for Max Homa it was an even bigger deal when he arrived for the weekend after a cruel second round performance Friday.

For Homa, it was his first time he had cut in a tournament since July 19, 2024, when he came to the weekend at the Open Championship.

“Tough Times doesn’t hold, hard people do,” Homa said via the PGA Tour after her round.

“You always try to learn and develop. I know I’m only smooth and whatever, eight left, but it feels good not to beat myself here. So it was nice.”

Homa, 34, fought during the first round and shot a 2-over-pair 74. His second round was starting with an unhappy start when he booked the first hole and he was in danger of missing another cut.

Despite the bogey on the first hole, Homa strained himself down and did not do Bogey the rest of the way and ended with a 2-under-pair 70. He is even prepared throughout the first two days of Augusta National.

It wasn’t always beautiful for Homa. He only hit 8 of 14 (57%) fairways and had to do a lot of encryption to save pairs.

Homa has played this weekend this PGA Tour season, but the two events where he did, the Guard Post and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am did not have cuts. Homa did not reach the weekend in any tournament with a clipped line.

This is Homa’s sixth career start at Masters, and after a first round 67 last year he finished in a draw for third place. Homa seems to be building on his positive momentum from making the clip to another top-10 finish this year.

Homa joined the PGA Tour in 2014 and has six career gains on tour. His last win was 2023 Farmers Insurance Open.
