The united states’ national football team advances to the semi -finals of the Concacaf Gold Cup after a dramatic penalty against Costa Rica.
The fight was the stalemate at two goals per year.
After Usmnt’s Tyler Adams and Costa Ricas Alonso Martinez buried their attempt to begin the penalty, goalkeeper Matt Freese made a huge rescue on Juan Pablo Vargas’ shot to give his team the upper hand.

This came after Malik Tillman compensated for an unanswered penalty kick in the regular time that could have been the game winner, perfectly placed his shot for his left former Costa Rica legend Keylor Navas.
But Sebastian Berhalter, the son of the former usmnt -head trainer Gregg Berhalter, equalized things up as he sent his attempt to fly over the net. Santiago van der Putten’s follow -up shot for Costa Rica came by Freese despite the goalkeeper guessing the right way.
After Alex Freeman and Jefferson Brenes made their shots respectively, Freese got another rescue on Francisco Calvo’s attempt, giving John Tolkin the shot to finish it all for usmnt. But Navas came up on the clutch as he jumped to the left and tossed Tolkin’s shot away.
An extra round was needed, but Freese was simply locked inside. He was able to stop back-to-back shot, this time saving Andy Rojas’ shot.
Again, unpublished had a chance to end the match and Damion Downs got the chance. Navas was not able to guess right this time as Downs went left and celebrated immediately as the ball hit the back of the net.
During the 90 minutes before the shootout there were also fireworks, starting with “Los Ticos”, which first came on the board. It was Calvo who got the best of Freese with a penalty in the 12th minute.
However, Umsnt gathered towards the end of the first half with Diego Luna, scoring in the 43rd minute and Max Arfsten after it in the 47th minute.
Then, in the 71st minute midway through the second half, Martinez was sliding in after a rebound from Freese to tie the game up.

But usmnt will be those who move on to Guatemala on Wednesday in the semi -finals to determine who has a place in the Gold Cup final.
The second semi -final is Mexico against Honduras, who will be played after the US and Guatemala.
